Right outside the Ferry Terminal, is Staten Island's Downtown. With its bustling atmosphere, vibrant community, and cultural attractions, the community of St. George is a great place for you to explore. Instead of returning directly to Manhattan, take the time to eat at one of St. Georges many great restaurants, explore its museums, or watch a ball game! All this, and more, are waiting for you in Downtown Staten Island.
Staten Island’s 100-year-old Borough Hall is the seat of government for the Borough. Featuring beautiful French Renaissance design elements and a high clock tower, it is one of the most recognizable landmarks on Staten Island.
Hugging Staten Island’s Northern shore, the Esplanade offers picture-perfect views of Manhattan. A short walk from the Ferry Terminal along the Esplanade, brings you to Postcards, a stunning and somber memorial to the 275 Staten Islanders lost on September 11, 2001.
Since 1906, the Staten Island Ferry has been transporting commuters, sightseers, and visitors between Staten Island and Manhattan. Passing by the Statue of Liberty and Governors Island, the 25-minute FREE trip provides riders with postcard-perfect views of New York City’s greatest landmarks.
The St. George Theatre opened in 1929 as a vaudeville and movie palace. During the day, the magnificent lobby of this historic theatre is open to visitors to marvel at the ornate Spanish/Italian interior design, winding staircases and oversized chandeliers.
Fossils, paintings and curiosities in jars: These are just some of the marvels that can be found at the Staten Island Museum. Founded in 1881, the Museum is home to more than two million artifacts and specimens from ancient to contemporary periods.
Just a short walk from the Ferry is some of the best baseball in town. The Staten Island Yankees bring championship level baseball to Staten Island’s waterfront.
